Congratulations Girl’s Volleyball

This week, November 6, 2017, we honor the 2017 Varsity Volleyball team as our Pirate Competitors of the Week, sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette.  It is a great honor to recognize these 15 girls for an amazing season.  The team won the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference title with a perfect 13-0 record.  Despite being moved up to class 2A, the Pirates went on to win their fourth consecutive IHSA Regional Championship. The girls then followed that up with a history-making Sectional title – the first since 1983 – and the program’s first ever Elite Eight birth.  The Pirates finished 34-6 on the season, setting a new record for wins.  While praising the accomplishments of all the players, Coach Dennis Wills pointed to the leadership of this year’s group of seniors as a key to success, “What an amazing run these four young ladies had as we moved through the 2nd round of the state tournament all the way to the Super Sectional game. Their love and enthusiasm for the game brought our school and our community together which was really awesome to see!  Their character, drive and work ethic has lead our team all year and was clearly on display this last week.  Great Job Seniors!”  The entire team was honored with gifts from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.
