The City of Galena has notified the School District that the Franklin St./Bench St. intersection will be totally closed to all but pedestrian traffic from April 17—May 12, 2017.
The Transportation Department of Galena Unit School District #120 will make the following adjustments to the affected bus routes starting Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Green AM: The first pickup will be at the corner of Hill St. and Bench St. in front of the Fire Station; the rest of the AM route will be unaffected.
Brown AM: Students who normally get on at the Courthouse will now be picked up 5 minutes earlier at 249 Main Street (The Gold Room).
The pickups on Commerce will be at approximately the same time.
The pickups on Franklin St. and within Indian Ridge subdivision may run about 2 minutes behind normal pickup time.
Brown PM: The only change will be that the first Bench St. drop will be at Hill St. and Bench St. in front of the Fire Station, possibly 2 minutes later than normal.
Red PM: The only change will be the students who get off now at the Franklin St./Bench St. intersection will get off at the corner of Main and Franklin across from the Gold Room; this may be 2 minutes later than normal.

Congratulations to the GHS Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering (WYSE) Team on qualifying for the Sectional tournament last week. Two members took 3rd place at the Sectionals:
Adam Swisher – 3rd place in Biology
Julian Butts – 3rd place in Engineering Graphics
The top two individuals advance on to the state competition along with any individuals scoring high enough in their respective category. Advancing on to the state contest in the English competition will be Lillie Anderson & Samantha DuHack. They will compete on April 18th at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Good luck girls!
Congratulations to the GHS Boys’ Basketball team on their victory in the first round of the IHSA Basketball Regionals in Stockton last night.
The boys will now play East Dubuque on Wednesday (2/22) at 7:00pm in Stockton. Doors will open at 6:00pm.

Congratulations to the GHS Girls’ Basketball team on a VERY successful season! The girls season unfortunately ended last night in the IHSA Super Sectional. On behalf of everyone in Pirate Nation, thank you for all of your hard work this season!
On Thursday, Feb. 2nd 7 juniors and 7 seniors participated in the WYSE Regional at Highland Community College. We had several students place, which advances the individual to Sectionals.

With the team placing 3rd overall. This advances the entire team to Sectionals on March 2nd, at NIU.
This is either the GHS spin-off of “Where’s Waldo?” or the AC/DC Angus Young look-alike contest . . . either way—too funny!
