Galena High School’s yearbook has been a staple in the school’s history for years. Each year, the school’s publications class works hard to produce a yearbook full of memories and experiences of GHS students and staff. This year, our publications class has decided to try something new. We want to get YOU involved in our little piece of history.
The pubs class chooses a theme every year and then designs a cover to match the theme and the book. This year’s yearbook theme is A Pirates POV. Our book will feature inside scoops from GHS students about our school. All we need now is a cover. That’s where you come in.
We are looking for a cover that represents our theme and ties together with our yearbook. The pubs class has created a cover contest to involve the students in the creation of our book in a way we haven’t done before.
“I have thought about having a cover contest for several years, but I thought this year’s theme, A Pirates Point of View, would be really perfect for a contest,” said Mrs. Bookless. “Also, when we were in class we didn’t really have any ideas for what the cover should look like, so I thought maybe if we opened it up we might get some new ideas and inspiration.”
The Pubs class is looking for a GHS student to create a design for our 2023 theme, A Pirate’s POV. Artwork MUST be done by a GHS student but can be done in any medium. Entries are to be made on an 8.5x11 piece of white paper in vertical orientation. Other than these requirements, it is entirely up to your creative imagination!
“I think the cover contest is a great way to get people interested in the yearbook,” said co-editor in chief Ayden Wells ‘23. “The whole point of the yearbook is to showcase what students are up to throughout the year so it’s super cool to be able to showcase someone’s artistic abilities on the cover of the yearbook!”
The winning cover of our contest will be featured on the 2023 yearbook and the artist will receive a free yearbook! Submissions can be made to Mrs. Bookless and any questions can be directed to her as well. The deadline for submissions is October 1, 2022. Mrs. Bookless and the publications class can’t wait to see what amazing new ideas you can bring to our yearbook!
